Gilda Sculpt by CadmiumCrab Gilda Sculpt by CadmiumCrab
I decided I needed a challenge, so I went with a non-pony character.

Gilda is made of super sculpey, painted with acrylics, and sealed with matte acrylic spray. She stands at just under 4 inches tall.

I don't really have much to say about her. She was difficult to make, but mostly because I had to do multiple bakings to get all the pieces right. I can say that I won't be making one of these again, so I'm going to save it for Bronycon.

You always produce such interesting work. May I inquire as to how you attached the wings and your process for building them?

The wings are a multiple step process. First, I sculpt and bake the main body. Then I use an x-acto knife to carve holes where the wings will be. I sculpt the wings using a foil armature (so the wings will stand up correctly). I put extra clay on the bottom of the wing where it will attach to the body and push the soft clay into the hole I carved in the body so it takes an impression of the hole. Then I bake the wings. Finally, I superglue the wings into the holes and use some soft clay around where the wings are attached to blend over the connective seam. One last bake of the whole piece and its ready for painting.

I use super sculpey clay, and it stands up to multiple bakings, so you can add onto a sculpt after the initial bake.

amazing work! Just drawing griffons is tricky business. Can't even fathom sculpting one! xD

Thanks! I was trying to challenge myself with some non-pony designs. I think I'm going for Spike next.

Awesome sculpture! I'm shocked by how smooth and well formed it is!

Thanks! I always give them a little sanding after baking for extra smoothness.

Bah Gilda is such a tough character to do in 3D. I'm working on a model of her myself. After seeing this I might have to modify some parts.

I'd love to see your model when it's done.
