Sassy Shadowbolt by CadmiumCrab Sassy Shadowbolt by CadmiumCrab
I really love the color combo and design of the Shadowbolt outfit, I'm happy it made a small comeback in the Halloween ep.

I was on the fence if this was going to be a Wonderbolt or Shadowbolt, but the way the arm comes around the front makes it really difficult to paint the yellow that goes down the front of the uniform, so my decision was made for me. Made of the usual, super sculpey over wire and foil, painted with acrylics, sealed with matte acrylic spray.

RD came out pretty big, she measure 5 1/2 inches tall and 4 inches wide.

I will one day snag a shadowbolt from you. Also - her cutie mark is spectacular.

There's a good chance of several being at Bronycon, I love the costume design so much that I can't help making them.

Oh my god, becoming a Shadowbolt messed up her tail colors! XD (They're supposed to be layered ROYGBV from top to bottom.)

But I love that smirk.

hey, i have a few questions for you. i absolutely adore your work, and you inspired me to start sculpting ponies as well. but, im having trouble with a few things. i was wondering how you get your sculptures so smooth and sleek. everytime i try, my sculptures are covered in dust and fingerprints. another question, how you paint your sculptures after they are baked? what type of paint and brand do you use? lastly, where do you buy the matte acrylic spray? thanks so much, really appreciate it. sorry for all the questions. :-P

When you use colored clay, it's very easy to get it dirty. That's why I do mostly painted pieces. The best way to prevent dust and lint from getting in the clay is to wash your hands thoroughly before start and dry with a paper towel and wear light colored clothes that aren't fuzzy (like jeans, flannel, or sweaters).

To create smoothness, I paint the sculpt with Sculpey clay softener and do serious sanding after the piece is baked.

The paint I primarily use is Liquitex artist grade, but I also use some Golden brand ones. With paint, the higher the cost, the more expensive the pigments are, and the brighter the color. Try to catch the sets on sale or use coupons to get the most bang for your buck. Painting is lots of thin layers applied over a gesso prime coat.

I usually shop at Michaels because the selection is decent and they always have coupons and sales. If I need something more specific, an art speciality store or the Internet will usually have what I want.

Hope that helps!

Very nice, looks very smooth. Love the little smirk you put on her, I would've preferred her with the goggles on though.
